With THEHOST.IS, Kampnagel and the Deichtorhallen are launching a new series of residencies for art and digitality on March 15. Until the end of 2023, a total of five thematic programs are planned, each of which will invite three international residents to conduct discursive-experimental research on their own projects at the interface between art and digitalization – partly on site, partly online. The residencies form an experimental playing field for the development of new (digital) approaches to artistic production and knowledge transfer. Along the cooperation motto “Diversify the Code”, the topics of the residency programs deal with the critical questioning of hegemonic orders in the code, with decolonial strategies, digital resistance, self-empowerment and the democratization of digital systems as well as with queerfeminist utopias – reflected in artistic practices. The first residency program will be led by Canadian artist Darsha Hewitt from March 15 to June 15 and will explore experimental artistic ways of telecommunication under the title “How to Beam”.
