Art at Work

  • A FILM BY Jorge Ruiz Abánades and Diego Agulló (2016)

What does an artist do all day? Is there art without work? How can art generate value? And what about the production conditions for independent artists in Hamburg? While the surrealists once called for art to dissolve itself into life, today the artistic lifestyle has become part of location marketing for urban centers. Also, the public image of artistic work is changing: from a romantic existence driven by self-realization to the flexible and project based avant-garde of neoliberalism. ART AT WORK presents performances, installations and a debate program looking at different perspectives on the idea of artistic work.

»Never Art/work!« (Stevphen Shukaitis)
»Some call it Laziness. I call it deep thought.« (Garfield)
