Hamburg-based South African choreographer Jessica Nupen reinterprets Nikolai Gogol's illustrious fable »THE NOSE« in the form of an imaginative full-scale dance rap opera. Set in a modern epoch eroded by political cataclysms, fake news and growing social tensions, a nose departs from its owner’s face and embarks on a journey of self-determination, attaining a higher rank and status. An original score and rap libretto by Canadian musician and rapper Josh "Socalled" Dolgin responds to global themes of greed, hierarchy and emancipation. A spectacular set design together with an international ensemble of dancing singers and singing dancers create a unique reality driven by superstition and revelation.
The premiere of this piece is duly celebrated with a concert by Socalled.
