This year Florentina Holzinger, now in-house choreographer at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, challenges the audience of the International Summer Festival for the sixth time with her ever-growing subversive spectacles. After giving Balanchine's ballet »Apollon Musagette« a new coat of paint in 2018, she now brings a radical interpretation of Dante's Divine Comedy to the stage. A DIVINE COMEDY tells the story from the perspective of Beatrice, portrayed by the eponymous Beatrice »Trixie« Cordua - the first ballerina to dance Le Sacre du printemps nude in John Neumeier's 1972 Hamburg version, and who has already danced in Holzinger's TANZ (2020) at the Summer Festival. Her reflection on the life and death of a dancer in the 21st century is the beginning of a journey through the inferno and paradise of the present. 23 performers transform the stage into a transcendent battle of material, where literary history and visual art merge as much as dance, athletics and slapstick do. A visually stunning feminist celebration of the female body.

Very present in the foreground is a dancer with a naked upper body, who bends far backwards, on the right the part of a car, further back other performers, also (partly) naked in different positions.

Eight naked performers stand separately in a large stage space in different poses, several have a kind of skeleton strapped on like a rucksack. Two projection screens in the background bathe everything in reddish light.

Several naked performers douse themselves with colourful paint, in the foreground half lying down, in the background two more standing, there is an originally white surface that is now adorned with red, yellow, blue and green coloured areas.

In a factory-like stage space with a white floor, four naked performers run over hurdles towards the audience, the two in the middle are jumping.

In the predominantly black stage space, there is again a lot going on: cars hanging from the ceiling in the background, two long staircases to the sides, a large number of naked performers spread out on the stage, working on short tree trunks with chainsa

In the predominantly black stage space, partially dismembered pieces of wood can be seen in the foreground, in the background several dynamically moving naked performers and two projections with the words: rip open your stomach.
