Playlist New York
New York is a projection surface and a center of the American art world, creating specifically American versions of modern, postmodern and contemporary art, often in symbiotic inspiration with the urban centers of Europe. With FIGURE AT SEA, Deborah Hay and Laurie Anderson’s congenial collaboration with the Swedish Cullberg Ballet, the series PLAYLIST NEW YORK now brings two icons of the avant-garde to Kampnagel k6. In parallel, three works are shown by younger artists who have not been presented in Hamburg or even Europe yet. The election of Donald Trump, and his threats to eliminate American cultural subsidies, gives even more urgency to their uncompromising work practices, their questions about identity, pop culture and history as well as their search for new perspectives on our complicated present.
