The lecture-performance PRESENCE by visual artist and theatre maker Royce Ng is concerned with the concept of ‘presence’ in technology. It is the subject matter of the piece but is also enacted through the staging of the work. Performed remotely into a physical space, the piece uses various technologies to test the limits of the audience’s perception of the artist’s virtual presence despite his physical absence.
Supported by Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien and by the Produktionshäuserbündnis.
Presence was produced by Royce Ng & Materialise (HK), in co-production with Zürcher Theaterspektakel (CH), Kampnagel - International Center for Finer Arts (Hamburg / DE), Ob/Scene Festival (Seoul / KR), Taipei Performing Arts Center (Taipei / TW), and Kaserne Basel (CH). This project is supported by the IMPACT program of the Théâtre de Liège, with the financial support of the Rayonnement Wallonie grant, an initiative of the Walloon Government, operated by ST'ART SA. Hardware and software support provided by Alvaro Cassinelli and the Augmented Materiality Lab, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. This performance was realised thanks to an artistic residency hosted by Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione (Bologna / IT)
