The media activists from Peng! Collective have made a name for themselves for their explosive campaigns confronting threats to civil society: a loud apology on behalf of the German government for the Agenda 2010 reforms which intensified social inequality, creating a worldwide platform encouraging spies to quit their jobs, driving around the main buildings of the NSA, the British Secret Service GCHQ and the German BND with huge advertising posters to inform employees about the possibilities of an exit and active resocialisation to name just a few of their protests. With the interactive performance in which secret service employees were called and persuaded to leave their jobs, CALL A SPY, they were guests at the Summer Festival in 2016.

Peng! Collective return to Kampnagel this year with an interactive installation for the Festival Avant-Garten. KLINGELSTREICH BEIM KAPITALISMUS deals with the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial crisis of 2007/08 has made it clear that neoliberal capitalism is reaching its limits. The climate crisis has been a burning issue for more than 30 years, a fact which is not reflected in political decision-making despite its urgency. The health, housing or supply sectors are other examples of social areas where inequality and exploitation is justified on a systematic level. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has created a space for a kind of global "existentialist time out" - and PENG! is seizing this opportunity to ask fundamental questions about the systems that currently rule our world.

FESTIVAL AVANT-GARDEN INFOrmation

This year, the festival garden designed by JASCHA&FRANZ will be as special as the summer festival: In Hamburg's pearl of art leisure parks, there will not only be installations, performances and culinary delights, but also a daily changing programme on two open-air stages (details in the programme overview). Due to the Corona-related capacity restrictions for events, tickets for the individual evenings in the garden are available for the symbolic price of 3 Euros in advance and additionally at the Festival box office. A third stage is located on the piazza at the main entrance (free of charge with a seat outside the Peacetanbul Restaurant). With a ticket for another festival performance on the same evening you can enter the garden for free - as long as there is enough capacity, otherwise there might be bridgeable waiting times. Sorry, is a bit more complicated this year, but will be nice (and safe).
