Powerful and highly virtuosic, the dancers rebel against social inequality and discrimination inscribed in their bodies: The Krump’s dance style is a creative outlet that allows the wounds of exclusion and racism to speak for themselves. A HUMAN RACE unfolds the powerful movement repertoire of this fledgling dance style, illustrating its potential for a choreographic signature whose idea is not just a technical practice, but a sociopolitical one that offers young people self-empowerment in the face of feelings of powerlessness in the face of experienced discrimination. Together with five dancers, Grichka Caruge tells a story of empowerment and resistance to the music of Igor Stravinsky’s “Le Sacre du Printemps”, which is about inner contradictions, abysses, unspeakable conditions and the barriers between individuals and the group that must be resisted in
order to survive.
