Film premiere and artist talk

The Operndorf Afrika is an international art project that has been underway in Burkina Faso since 2009 and goes back to the idea of the German artist Christoph Schlingensief (1960–2010). The transcultural exchange is embedded in the everyday life of a growing village, about 30 kilometers away from the capital Ouagadougou, which includes a primary school, an infirmary, a recording studio and residential and guest houses. Aino Laberenz took over the management of the Opendorf Afrika in 2010 after the death of Christoph Schlingensief.

On the occasion of the fifth edition of the Artist-in-Residence program in Operndorf Afrika, Kampnagel director Amelie Deuflhard will discuss with Aino Laberenz and the artists Aguibou Bougobali Sanou, Sylvain Dando Paré and Hervé Humbert the residency program, the opportunities for international exchange and the film VOYAGE IMMOBILE, which is a cooperation between the three artists who met during the 2019 residency program.

Aguibou Bougobali Sanou is a dancer and choreographer and comes from Burkina Faso, where he currently lives and works. He trained with choreographers and theater directors such as Salia Sanou, Carolyn Carlson, Thierry de Mey, Luca Fusi GM and Régine Chopinot Alexandre de la Caffinière and won several prestigious choreographic prizes. The work of Sanou is a mixture of traditional dances of the West African mandingo, Brazilian capoeira and theatrical expressions derived from his work with influential European directors. His work fundamentally questions identity and renegotiates it in his choreographies.
Hervé Humbert has lived and worked as an artist in Berlin since 2005. For over ten years, Humbert has dealt with the topic of the boundaries and transitions between sculpture, design and interior design. He starts from the assumption that the art object is a domestic object that is one of the everyday objects. Based on this, he tries to create an open, "global", i.e. cross-cultural, work of art. To do this, he creates “usable” sculptures and temporary installations, such as the Little Stage in the Opendorf: A modular and mobile stage that can be used as a grandstand and agora for events.
Sylvain Dano Paré's work as an author and songwriter combines traditional West African forms of expression with experimental influences from modern jazz and understands music as an intercultural fluctuating art form. Paré appeared on several national and international stages in Africa and Europe with musical greats. Since 2015 he has been the director of the Maison de la Musique Afric Echos (2M-AE), taking care of the training of young music talent from Burkina Faso and other African countries.
