KAMPNAGEL – Hibernation is over!
We are starting the New Year with big, international productions. Constanza Macras is visiting from Argentina with THE OFFSIDE RULES. The choreographer, recently awarded the FAUST prize, developed the piece for the World Cup in South Africa with artists from Johannesburg and dancers in her company and delivers a high-energy evening, which confronts the political situation in South Africa through dance, music and video.
In February we present new piece BABEL (WORDS) by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, one of the most sought-after international choreographers, who with 13 dancers and five musicians from 13 countries fathoms the possibilities of international understanding. As with his last piece, SUTRA, Turner Prize winner Antony Gormley is responsible for the stage design. For the first Kampnagel production of the New Year we have commissioned Hamburg choreographer Johnny Lloyd, together with Samy Deluxe as well as hip hop dancers, musicians and a 20-piece beatbox choir to put hiphop under the microscope. FUNK EX MACHINA creates a world dominated by sound and movement.
With their new musical theatre production, Hamburg performance group HAJUSOM is going on an excursion to Bollywood. HAJUSOM IN BOLLYLAND mixes big emotions and music and dance quotes from films with the real experiences of the young protagonists and their different immigration backgrounds. The ECHT MIGRATIONSFORMATE festival also deals with the current immigration debate, inviting artists to present their personal perspective with installations, documentary theatre, music, film and lecture performances. Paulina Pomana and Volkmar Sippel have consulted movement experts for their piece BEIN-FREIHEIT (LEG FREEDOM). In THE SOUND OF IT, Hamburg choreographer Lucia Glass has taken it upon herself to make movement audible. Another year of new music festival klub katarakt promises special listening experiences as it focuses on the works of Rhys Chatham.
The directorial graduates of the Theatre Academy present their exam pieces at Kampnagel and we are excited to see new artistic forms. In the New Year we resume the SMALL BEAST series from charming entertainer Paul Wallfisch, as well as our successful collaboration with the Elbe Philharmonic, the NDR Symphony Orchestra and the Staatsoper. Finally there will also be a new edition of the GIRLMONSTER evenings, curated by CHICKS ON SPEED
Wishing you a good start to the New Year,
Yours, Amelie Deuflhard
