What makes 20,000 people open a shaken up beer can simultaneously? What have a burning dove of peace, a clenched, bleeding fist and a crown of thorns made from barbed wire got to do with it? Which trace technologies will be applied to make masses of teenagers do things that they will remember till the day they die? What secret messages are hidden within the beats? What follows the hustle and bustle in parental living rooms – the morning after when otherwise reasonable parents take on a bourgeois countenance? What is a stage? What is a promise? What is power? What is freedom? What is real, what is fake? What is ecstasy?

DEICHKIND IN THE RUBBISH is a discourse operetta about the cult of celebrity, entertainment and the power of production. The band Deichkind – now a mass phenomenon thanks to their theatrical concert Happenings -, enters into a sense of confusion, after which neither the band nor the audience will ever be the same again.

[By and with] Deichkind (Henning Besser, Sebastian Dürre, Philipp Grütering, Sven Janetzko, Sascha Reimann, Enno Schauder, Hayo Schauder), Björn Beneditz, Ted Gaier, Udo Böckmann, Sebastian Jakob, Cornelia Kempers, Sylvi Kretzschmar, Friedrich Liechtenstein, Thomas Maringer, Alvaro Pina, Angie Reed, Pheline Roggan, Andras Siebold, Joscha Sliwinski, Benjamin Sohrt, Frank Stöckling.

DEICHKIND IN THE RUBBISH is a Kampnagel and Deichkind production in collaboration with the Danube Festival in Krems. With kind support from the Federal Cultural Foundation for the “Musicflash Performance Series” and by means of the private theatre pot and the Hamburg Authority for Culture, Sport and Media. With big thanks to Alex&Liane who made this project possible.
