In their second concert at Kampnagel, the NDR symphony orchestra embarks on a round trip of Latin America, just in time for the 2010 Bicentario celebrations taking place there. It’s all about the Pampas from the outset: Argentinean musician Alberto Ginastera uses his ballet music to portray the endless grassland together with dashing Gauchos on horseback. Fellow Argentine, Astor Piazzolla, synonymous with modern, concert hall “Tango Nuevo”, combines the traditional “Tango Argentino” with elements from modern music and jazz. Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas created the modern musical culture of his country almost single handedly with pieces such as “Night of the Mayas”, which was originally created as film music. The mix of originality, ties to the homeland and self-irony is typical of Revueltas: “I like all styles of music. I can tolerate some of the classics and some of my own compositions, but I prefer the music of ordinary people on the farms and from the villages of my homeland.”

The dynamic music of South America will be performed by two of classical music’s pioneers: the young star conductor Kristjan Järvi and the bandoneon virtuoso Per Arne Glorvigen. And following that: a lounge programme with Per Arne Glorvigen and G-Strings.
