Othello is the most famous black man on the western stage, in Africa hardly anybody has heard of him: a European matter, in which the foreigner is always being newly interpreted. Alexander Scheer played Othello at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, the blacked up Ulrich Wildgruber at Zadek, Thomas Thieme, whose skin was left white, at the Munich Kammerspielen and the African German citizen Jubril Sulaymon in Freiburg. The artistic duo Gintersdorfer and Klaßen, who have developed theatre and film projects, among other things, in the Hamburg Art Society and the Schauspielhaus as well as the Munich Kammerspielen, have invited one of the most famous actors from productions of OTHELLO, to spend an evening talking, demonstrating and acting with the Ivory Coast born dancer and actor Franck Edmond Yao. Every performance is different and is newly defined by each new audience, so that a performed, discursive experiment on theatre, life and our contact with strangers is allowed to emerge.
