A love letter to an interdisciplinary musical theatre and the end of one of the greatest intergalactic love stories of the past decade: tears of joy and farewell are guaranteed at the grand finale of Socalled’s puppet musical epic THE SEASON.
Socalled’s anarchic puppet musical is the Summer Festival’s answer to Broadway. With a large joyous ensemble of puppets, musicians, dancers, actors, designers and a human musical star guest in each episode, Canadian composer, pianist, magician, photographer, puppet maker and Summer Festival homie Socalled has inspired happy-go-lucky moments for entire families for almost ten years in Hamburg. THE SEASON combines folk music, hip hop, klezmer, funk and global pop in a virtuoso musical form with earworm factor. All three episodes so far have been presented or premiered at the Summer Festival, and the fourth part now marks a grand culmination of this epic musical tale of a bear, his forest pals and fuzzy alien creatures. Each SEASON part works independently, but with TIME - THE 4th SEASON the cycle is concluded and can begin again. After episodes that took on racism, gentrification, colonialism and slavery, this fourth and final chapter looks at reality and dreams while taking time itself as its theme and setting. After episodes inspired by folk, funk and South Asian-Indian styles, TIME - The 4th Season will work with Japanese Koto player (and Yiddish singer) Miwazow to create a whole new international flavour of theatrical imagination.
