Sasha Marianna Salzmann is a playwright, essayist, and dramaturge who has been awarded the Kunstpreis Berlin 2020, among other prizes. IM MENSCHEN MUSS ALLES HERRLICH SEIN (Suhrkamp Verlag) tells the story of Nina and her mother, who left Ukraine in the mid-1990s and became stranded in Jena and of her family history. Salzmann sketches how systems disintegrate and people are swept along by the maelstrom of events and traces the indissoluble entanglement of generations, across times and spaces: visually powerful, full of empathy, and with great intensity.
