QUEER ORIENT is a workshop and exhibition format on homosexuality in the history of the Orient headed by the artist and designer Ashraf Alkhateeb from Syria and Hasan Kahrizi, a LGBTIQ* activist from Iraq. The workshop is primarily directed towards LGBTIQ*s from the Near East.

 

WORKSHOP PART 1:  THEORY

Showing the historic dimensions of homosexuality in the Orient – opposing positions to the dominant reception of homosexuality as a product of modernity

Do-28.09.

Promotion of the culture of Oriental homosexuals in the context of LGBTIQ* migrants in Hamburg

Reference points to life realities in the Near East and personal backgrounds

WORKSHOP PART 2: PAINTING

Sa-30.09. bis Di-03.10.

In the workshop’s practical part, partici- pants process their experiences in illustra- tions that are inspired by Abu l-Faradsch al-Isfahani’s works. In them, he shows loving men in various stories and poses.

QUEERS IN EXILE (05.-07.10.2017)

For members of the LGBTIQ* community, especially activists, a path to western exile can often mean a step away from repression and vi- olence in daily life and into personal and political freedom. Over the course of three evenings, the QUEERS IN EXILE laboratory presents positions that have generated new bravery and energy in exile – not only to freely express yourself on a personal level, but also artisti- cally and in terms of activism.

Pouya Arastoo / Mojtaba Golmohammadi speak extensively about their own biographic experience  (07.10. / 18:00)

Yousef Iskandar: belly dance, tantra and cabaret meet audio-visual art, Arab Acid, burlesque and oriental dance at ARABURLESQUE (05.-06.10. / 22:00)

Ashraf Alkhateeb: Take it Off / A Fashionshow with own patterns and designs (07.10. / 22:00)
