Swiss director Thom Luz creates theatrical artworks on stage in which the metaphysics of everyday life become audible and visible. Like this year's festival artists Christoph Marthaler, Dieter Roth and Brandão/Faber/Hunger, Luz faces the tragedy of life with soulful Swiss humor - or at least a good song. His last work for the Summer Festival about a fog machine factory was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen, a showcase of the ten best pieces of the season. Three years later, Thom Luz now returns to Hamburg with an accident: the present has hit the wall, situated on stage is a smoking car wreck with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's piano cycle "Songs without Words" resounding from its radio. These musical salon dreams are the basis of a catastrophe reconstruction by five musician and illusion experts - in a visually stunning production that once again shows the potential of the medium of theater to overcome the shock of the present with music, lyrics and smoke machines.
