    Kampnagel – KMH

The second festival day devotes itself to the Hamburg composer Michael Maierhof. In his pieces he deals with our acoustic environment, using everyday objects like clothes pegs, plastic cups, balloons or electric toothbrushes. „I’m preoccupied by our acoustic reality because it gets on my nerves, being attractive to me at the same time. I have to deal with that as a composer and find my own stance. I’m bringing the acoustic reality in the concert hall, translated, stylized. I’m not using construction machinery but classical instruments, or I’m developing new ones, in an artificial space, thus reconfiguring reality in a perceptible way,“ says Michael Maierhof. His compositions often focus on the exploration of a single complex sound and the silence between the sounds. Apart from pieces of his series splitting there will also be the premiere of a work commissioned by klub katarakt. Belgian Nadar Ensemble has been invited for this portrait, one of the most innovative formations of Europe’s experimental scene.

The night concert is given by Thomas Ankersmit. He works with large modular analogue synthesizers and often deliberately misuses his equipment, using feedback and disruptions to the signal, and the extremes of frequency and dynamics, to create visceral but finely detailed swarms of sound, which seen to envelop the listener.
