Forget consensus. In her lecture Chantal Mouffe sees political agonism as the future of democracy.

The lecture will be available online on beginning from 20th august 2015.

Chantal Mouffe is one of the most important thought-leaders of the left and one of today’s most important theorists of democracy. The professor of political theory, who teaches at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster and is a member of the renowned Collège International de Philosophie de Paris, has developed an alternative to established models of democratic theory. Instead of consensus, which has resulted in a blurring of the camps in the post-democratic age, she argues for political agonism on a national, European and global level, centered on dispute between mutually recognized opponents. Mouffe’s talk takes place within the context of the Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance of the ZEIT-Stiftung. In previous years, it has hosted talks by such honorable speakers as Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Rahul Gandhi and Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Eine Veranstaltung der ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius im Rahmen der Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance.
