ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The International Summer Festival Hamburg takes place three weeks in August at Kampnagel and selected places in the city of Hamburg. Since its beginning in the mid 80s the festival has held a position as one of the big European festivals for new performative arts from all over the world. Each year it presents and produces over 50 different works from dance, theatre, performance, music, visual arts and film. The festival's focus is on interdisciplinary works with a sense for music as a key performance-engine. Invited artists stand out due to their interest and engagement in the present, pop-theoretical issues and radical aesthetic approaches.

LAST EDITION: august 7 – 25, 2013

The International Summer Festival Hamburg 2013 closed with more than 30.000 visitors, who attended more than 50 different shows, exhibitions, concerts and theory-formats. For three weeks it presented wild realism in an extensive program that focussed on the hybridizations of pop and performance since the 1960s.
