Theater, Performance und Tanz in Hamburg - Kampnagel

klub katarakt 2021

25.-27. febuary 2021

A key aspect of klub katarakt is spatial music. Since 2009, the festival has been taking place at Kampnagel, where three interconnected halls allow for a great degree of mobility. From this, a tradition of strolling concerts has emerged, in particular for the annual opening concerts, in which the audience is free to move around through all three halls, actively becoming a part of the concert as a form of installation.1

Another focus of klub katarakt is music based on long, sustained sounds, featuring masters of the craft like Phill Niblock, Éliane Radigue, and last but not least La Monte Young.

klub katarakt traces its origins to the group katarakt, which was founded in 1992 by students of composition enrolled in the Hamburg Music Academy for the purpose of performing their works outside of the academy, in venues associated more with the local club- and subculture-scene and less so with classical music. From this, klub katarakt emerged in 2005 and soon distinguished itself as an important part of the experimental music community beyond the city limits of Hamburg. Since then, the festival has evolved to showcase audiovisual arts, previously presenting artists such as Kathrin Bethge, Josephin Böttger, Makino Takashi, Telcosystems, Rainer Kohlberger and most recently, Frank Bretschneider in 2019.

klub katarakt has to be postponed due to the current situation. This is the old program that was planned for January. The new plan for Febuary will be announced here at the beginning of 2021.
